Daily life of a woman
The father of the house hold controlled the women before they got married. Their husband controlled them once they were married. Only the very privileged girls might learnt to read at home with a tutor or perhaps play the lyre.
They learnt important household skills-spinning, weaving, sewing, cooking and other household jobs. Girls would learn simple facts on mythology, religion and occasionally musical instruments. Girls and women spent most of their time in her household with other women- only leaving the house to perform religious duties.
Girls got married in their teens, often to a man in his 30's and these marriages were arranged by their fathers. After a woman got married, she and her husband would give offerings to the god's and share a cake with her husband. The ancient Greek girl did not know or meet her husband until the dowry (the girl's portion of the father's estate) and betrothal had been agreed to. It was important that the ancient girls were virgins.
Spartan women were treated more as equals to men. Girls were educated in reading and writing and could participate in sport. Spartan women could own and control their own property.

Housing
Most Athenian houses had two storeys they were fairly small. The home of a wealthy Greek family might have a central courtyard, bathroom and a stone floor, rather than one made from packed Earth. Apart from this there was little difference between it and the homes of poorer people. Men and women had separate living areas.
